Market & Economic Update

U.S. may open higher- U.S. stock index futures moved slightly on Wednesday before the release of economic data along with a report on the labor market. S&P 500 futures surged 0.1 point and were slightly below fair value. The Dow Jones industrial average increased 10 points and Nasdaq 100 futures added 3.75 points.

European markets- European equities traded flat on Wednesday after Standard Chartered bank affected the market with its losses. The FTSEurofirst 300 declined 0.1% to 1,279.82 points, having dropped 1.5% to 1,280.85 points on Tuesday.

Asian Markets- The Nikkei declined to its lowest level in six weeks after reaching a six year high in the last trading session as investors booked gains ahead of the U.S. November jobs report due later this week. The Nikkei ended down 2.2% at 15,407.94. The Hang Seng Index closed down 0.8% at 23,728.7 points owing to uncertainty regarding tapering of asset purchases by the U.S. Federal Reserve.

Stocks to watch

J.C. Penney Company, Inc. (NYSE:JCP)

After the closing session yesterday, J.C. Penney reported that its comparable store sales increased 10.1% in November, and the company looked satisfied with its performance over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Shares of J.C. Penney surged more than 4% in extended trading.

OmniVision Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:OVTI)

For the second quarter, OnmiVision posted adjusted profit of 60 cents per share, an increase from 33 cents per share a year ago. For the third quarter, the company expects earnings of 28 cents per share to 44 cents per share on revenue of $310 million to $340 million. According to the analysts, adjusted earnings would come in at 43 cents per share on revenues of $399.5 million. OmniVision shares slumped 14% in after-hours trading.

Guess?, Inc. (NYSE:GES)

Guess is expected to post third quarter earnings of 38 cents per share. Over past few quarters, the company has posted soft revenue due to decreasing comps in North America retail stores. The result is also expected to be affected by lower consumer spending in China and continuous macroeconomic challenges in Southern Europe.

Aeropostale Inc (NYSE:ARO)

Aeropostale Inc. is expected to report a loss of 25 cents a share for the third quarter. The company is cutting costs and revamping offerings to enhance its profits.

New York & Company, Inc. (NYSE:NWY)

New York & Co. is projected to post a loss of 3 cents a share for the third quarter. Analysts are expecting the company to post earnings of ($0.04) per share and revenue of $224.68 million. New York & Co. currently has a consensus rating of Buy and a consensus price target of $5.70.
