Trump to meet with Martin Luther King III in observance of holiday
President-elect Donald Trump will meet with the eldest son of Martin Luther King Jr. to discuss the importance of his father’s work and to observe the holiday, Trump’s spokesman said. The move comes as tensions escalate between Trump and Representative John Lewis of Georgia. Lewis, a Democrat, Friday said that he would not attend the inauguration and did not see Trump as a legitimate president. Trump later said on social media that Lewis should help him focus on “burning and crime infested inner-cities” throughout the United States and adding, “I can use all the help I can get!”

How Martin Luther King Jr.’s parents learned of his tragic death
Martin Luther King Sr. published the autobiography ‘Daddy King‘ in 1980. In the book, King recalls when news broke that his son had been assassinated. I began praying, filling the study with my words. Soon more news had been received by a local radio station that indicated M.L. was hurt but still alive. Another report came through, saying the bullet had struck him in the shoulder, and I heard myself asking, “Lord, let him live, let him be alive!” But moments later the newscaster had a final, somber bulletin: Martin Luther King, Jr., had been shot to death while standing on a balcony at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis…Suddenly, in a few seconds of radio time, it was over.
