In 2013, the private equity market underwent a rebalancing as firms shifted their attention from increasingly volatile emerging markets to the developed economies. Heightened confidence in the growth prospects of the United States and Europe, together with strong public equity and debt markets, are boosting the value of PE-driven sales, even though deal volume dipped from 2012. Similar trends occurred at a global level. At the same time, competition remains fierce as new entrants, including asset managers, are moving into the PE space. And the global regulatory landscape has shifted, with PE activities increasingly subject to alternative investment rules, which add new layers of complexity to doing business.
