More and more signs are beginning to point to a September release of the iPhone 5S rather than the iPhone 6. This time the sign comes in the form of some allegedly leaked photos of the chassis of the next iPhone.

iPhone 6 Release Date, iPhone 5S Chassis Photos Leaked

Chassis photos point to iPhone 5S rather than iPhone 6?

The photos were posted on EXPReview, a Chinese website. Slash Gear was one of the first to discover those photos. One photo shows several of the chassis pieces packed up in plastic. The other shows the chassis from the back and from the inside.

The images show a chassis that looks almost identical to that of the iPhone 5, hinting at the device being the iPhone 5S rather than the iPhone 6. They also appear to be similar to earlier images of the rear shell of the iPhone 5S, which were leaked last month.

Still hope for the iPhone 6?

Of course these photos don’t leave the iPhone 6 completely out of the picture because we know that a low-cost iPhone is in the works. We’ve seen photos of packaging for a device called the iPhone 5C, and there are now cases for the device available for purchase on Amazon.

Since we don’t know where these chassis images came from, there is still hope for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) fans who just can’t let go of ideas of a larger and possibly completely revamped iPhone 6 this year. It would make sense that the low cost iPhone would be very similar to the iPhone 5 with all the fancy features being saved for the iPhone 6.

iPhone 6 release date

Now let’s turn to the release date for the iPhone 6. From looking at the calendar, a date between Sept. 2 and Sept. 16 would make sense, based on what we’ve heard about iOS 7. The fourth update to the iOS 7 beta just came out this week, and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) typically releases updates about every two to three weeks. Since we’ve heard that there are two more updates for iOS 7 coming before the public debut, the likely release date for the next iPhone—whether it’s the iPhone 6, the iPhone 5C, or whatever Apple is calling it—would be in early September.

The earliest date iOS 7 could be ready is Aug. 26 if you’re counting just two weeks in between updates, and usually the next iPhone is ready a week later. Some have said that a Labor Day release is likely for the iPhone 6 or whatever it’s called, but I would think later in the month would make more sense. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has never been known for rushing a product to market before it’s ready.
