Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) might soon be coming up with chips with a clocking speed of 4GHz, according to a Chinese website EXPreview. If the report is true, then Intel’s next replacement for the Core i7-4770K CPU will be able to offer a speed of 4GHz.

Speed could Turbo Boost upto 4.4GHz

The soon to be launched CPU is among the range of chips expected to debut in June. Two high-end K-series models from Intel code-named Devil’s Canyon (the Core i5-4690K and Core i7-4790K) will also be launched. Core i7-4790K is expected to offer the magic 4GHz number. Furthermore, under certain circumstances the speed could increase further to 4.4GHz using Intel’s Turbo Boost technology.

Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s Core i5-4690K, which would be relatively less expensive, will produce a default clock speed of 3.5GHz, and Turbo Boost to 3.9GHz. The heat factor has marred the popularity of Intel’s Ivy Bridge and Haswell-based processors such as the Core i7-3770K and Core i7-4770K, with many using their own thermal paste instead of built-in heat spreaders. Keeping this in mind, the new CPUs from Intel will certainly have an improved thermal interface between the CPU core and heat spreader, says a report from Forbes.

It’s even possible the new CPUs could produce speeds up to 5GHz when overclocked with well-designed cooling systems.

Intel CPUs superior than AMD’s

Recently, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) unveiled the Z97 chipset that supports the M.2 and SATA Express storage standards offering up to 10Gbps bandwidth compared to the currently available 6Gbps. Whether or not there would be a similar support for the new Devil’s Canyon CPUs and its successor is still unknown. The new Z97 chipset is expected to support both the new CPUs, but it’s possible that the previous Z87 chipset might not support the future Devil’s Canyon and Broadwell CPUs.

Rival AMD, also offers 4GHz speed, and even has a 5GHz CPU known as FX-9590. However, AMD products are notoriously known for a lower clock-for-clock efficiency, suggesting their CPUs are actually no match for Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s when compared on the basis of same clock speed.

Separately, there have been rumors that Microsoft may introduce an Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)-based Surface Pro 3 tablet next week at a special event. Microsoft is already expected to unveil a smaller Surface tablet at a May 20th event.
