Leaks and rumors about Google’s upcoming Pixel 4 smartphones have been gathering pace as the devices move closer to launch. Last month, Google shocked the industry by sharing the official renders of the Pixel 4 series months before the official unveiling. But the official renders focused only on the rear panel of the handsets. New Google Pixel 4 leaks shed light on the front panel design and other specs.

Over the weekend, the ever-reliable Twitter tipster Ice Universe shared pictures of the Pixel 4 series’ front panel. They suggest the upcoming models will have thick bezels at the top to accommodate the ear speaker, selfie cameras, and other sensors. Google is not going to use the display notch or hole-punch to offer a bezel-less design. The phones will also have noticeable bezels at the bottom.

Ice Universe’s leak corroborates past reports claiming that the Pixel 4 series would sport thick bezels at the top and bottom. Both top and bottom bezels appear to be thicker than what we have seen on other premium Android phones like Galaxy S10 Plus and OnePlus 7 Pro.

According to the rumor mill, the regular Pixel 4 would feature a 5.6-inch OLED display with 19:9 aspect ratio and 2280 x 1080 pixels resolution. The larger model would get a 6.4-inch OLED display with 3040 x 1440 resolution. The images shared by Ice Universe reveal that the devices would get a dual-camera setup for selfies.

The top bezel appears to have a bunch of cutouts for various sensors including the ambient light sensor and proximity sensor. According to 9to5Google, the upcoming Pixel phones could feature new sensors for gesture recognition and motion sensing.

Since 2015, Google has been working on Project Soli, which is a radar-based technology to detect motion and gestures. It was originally aimed at the Internet of Things (IoT) and wearable devices. But the technology is now expected to debut with the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL.

Separately, another reliable tipster @OnLeaks teamed up with iGeekBlog to share a series of Google Pixel 4 renders. These renders also show off thick bezels at the top. These renders resemble another set of Pixel 4 images leaked a couple of weeks ago.

The official renders shared by Google in June hinted at some radical design changes. The search engine giant would use a square camera module and a unibody rear panel. It means the company will finally do away with the dual-tone combination of the glossy and matte finish. The renders also indicated that the devices would launch without the front-firing speakers.

In another report, folks at BGR have learned from inside sources that Google would finally increase the RAM on its Pixel phones this year. Android vendors like Samsung and OnePlus offer up to 12GB RAM on their flagship devices. In contrast, Google was still using only 4GB RAM on Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.

According to BGR, the Google Pixel 4 series would offer 6GB RAM, up from 4GB on the Pixel 3. While it’s a decent jump, it’s still only half of 12GB RAM on the OnePlus 7 Pro. Google controls both hardware and software of its products, so it can tightly integrate them to deliver high-end performance even with lower RAM.

The Pixel 4 was recently spotted in a black color variant, indicating that Google will once again offer the flagship in ‘Just Black’ color. The device has also been spotted in a blue color variant and a Mint Green option. Both the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are expected to run Qualcomm’s recently announced Snapdragon 855 Plus, which is a minor upgrade over the Snapdragon 855.

The Pixel 4 XL is rumored to come with three rear cameras and two selfie cameras. By comparison, last yer’s Pixel 3 XL had a single 12MP lens on the back and two cameras on the front. The search engine giant is expected to ditch the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The upcoming Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are said to have an in-display fingerprint sensor or a side-mounted one.
