Apple Music is one of the most popular music subscription services around. If you have been planning to subscribe to this Apple service, now is the best time to do it. Apple usually offers three months of free trial period to a new user. However now, you can get Apple Music free for six months, but you will have to meet a couple of conditions.

How to get Apple Music free for six months?

Apple’s new offer is seen as a Christmas or Holiday deal, and was first spotted by Macworld UK. The first condition to get Apple Music for free for six months is that you need to sign up for the music service via the Shazam app, which is also owned by Apple.

The Shazam app helps to identify songs that are playing anywhere, such as in movies, ads and more. Apple revealed intentions to acquire Shazam in December 2017. Since then, the app has gotten many new features and is now ad-free as well. Even though the app is available worldwide, Apple’s Christmas deal is available only in the U.S., the UK and Canada. This means you need to be residing in one of these countries to get the offer.

To get Apple Music free for six months, follow the below steps:

Step 1: Install the Shazam app on your iPhone or iPad. If you already have the Shazam app installed on your iPhone or iPad, then move to the next step.

Step 2: Launch the Shazam app.

Step 3: Go to the Library and select any song from the Recent Shazams list.

Step 4: Tap the button Open in Apple Music. If you are not an Apple Music subscriber, you will get the option to sign up for Apple Music and get the service free for six months.

Step 5: Tap on the button Try it Free.

Step 6: You will now land on the Apple Music app. An automatically generated discount code will be redeemed in your account, so that you can get Apple Music for six months.

That’s it! Now enjoy Apple Music for six months.

Existing Apple Music users can benefit as well

If you have already subscribed to Apple Music, then you can also benefit from this offer. However, you will have to give up your current Apple Music subscription. It is definitely worth a try as it could help you save about $30. To get Apple Music free for six months, follow the below steps:

Step 1: Cancel your current Apple Music subscription.

Step 2: Launch the Shazam app.

Step 3: Go to the Library and tap on the settings icon.

Step 4: Search for “Disconnect Apple Music” option and tap on it.

Step 5: Follow the steps mentioned above to get six months free access to Apple Music.

That’s it!

If you don’t know how to cancel your Apple Music subscription, detailed below are the steps to do so:

Step 1: Open the Apple Music app.

Step 2: Tap on the “For You” menu.

Step 3: Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner.

Step 4: Tap on “Manage Subscription.”

Step 5: At the bottom, tap on “Cancel Subscription.”

Step 6: Tap “Confirm.”

Your Apple Music subscription is now cancelled.

Not all are getting six free months

This is not the first time Apple has used Shazam to promote Apple Music, or using Apple Music to promote Shazam. Apple came out with a similar promotion over Black Friday as well.

It must be noted that not all users are getting the full six months free period. Some have reported getting Apple Music free for four months, while some got only one month if they already had the three month trial.

“I got 6 months on my phone, my daughter only got 1 month. I have never had any type of subscription to Apple Music, maybe that’s why I got the 6 months. The offer on my daughter’s phone said she would get 4 months, but in the end she only got 1 month,” one user said.

As of now, it is not clear what criteria (if any) Apple is using to select the free period duration for the users. Most users, however, report getting the full six months free. Apple’s six-months free offer for the music service will apparently run till the end of the year. So, if you plan on getting an Apple Music subscription, then you need to act quickly.
