The Galaxy S6 won’t even be out until next year, but as with all of the most popular smartphones, people just won’t stop speculating about it. Rumors keep pouring out, with most of them coming from rather questionable sources with questionable track records.
Galaxy S6 with retina scanner?
This week we’ve heard on various websites that the Galaxy S6 might have a retina scanner. This is probably pure speculation, and the source appears to be My Drivers, a Chinese publication. The story claims that the iris scanner will also be a fingerprint scanner.
The reason there are speculations about a retina scanner for the Galaxy S6 is because Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) management said earlier this year that they were working on one. In other words, it’s probably just a matter of time before the feature pops up in the Galaxy smartphone line.
Other rumors about the Galaxy S6
As with every smartphone refresh, the Galaxy S6 is expected to have a better camera. Some sources suggest that the rear-facing camera will be 16 megapixels, although other estimates range as high as 20 megapixels. There have also been reports that the smartphone will pack 4 gigabytes of RAM and a 2K display.
In addition, it’s expected that the Galaxy S6 will have a 64-bit processor, as Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) has now made its Android operating system compatible with 64-bit processors. The screen is expected to be 5.5 inches in size.
Samsung to include faster Wi-Fi
This week we also heard that the Galaxy S6 will feature a new Wi-Fi technology Samsung calls WiZig, which is supposedly five times or more faster than any of the current systems that are in use right now. The technology is supposed to close the gap that exists in speed between a wired connection and a smartphone Wi-Fi connection.
The technology reportedly works on the 60 GHz band, which isn’t new technology because it came out last year. However, Samsung has apparently fixed all the problems with the tech so that the new WiZi system standard can allow data to be transmitted by up to 575 MB a second.
