Twitter Inc (NASDAQ:TWTR) has long been working on redesigning its user profiles, and after testing the redesigned profiles for several weeks the all-new look has been rolled out users yesterday. It is now possible for users to enable the new profile for their accounts anytime they want.

Twitter’s new and old profile – notable differences

Twitter Inc (NASDAQ:TWTR)’s new profile page is more visual than before, and is as attractive as the user profiles on Facebook or Google+. The profile photo has been made larger and is present on all the pages. The cover photo placed above the profile photo is also bigger than before. The profile page can easily be customized by the user with the photographs of their own choice or they can also choose from a set of default cover images.

For many years, there was a vertical timeline that represented the Twitter Inc (NASDAQ:TWTR) activity of a user in chronological order. This activity is now available in a mosaic view. A newly added section called ‘favorites’ enables the user to gain quick access to the recently starred tweets. What’s missing is a quick access to the lists, which may not be liked by the power users about the redesigned profile.

A new feature of pinning a single tweet at the top of the profile is now available for users. According to the micro blogging site, this tweet along with other user details could help the visitors to gain personal information about a user. The tweets by a user that have been retweeted a number of times will appear larger than the other tweets that are not so engaging.

Bigger but not necessarily better

The new redesigned Twitter Inc (NASDAQ:TWTR) profile highlights the joining date of the user prominently and it remains permanently on the profile. This might not be liked by some users as they do not want to be tagged as a newbie.

To some users, the new profile page may appear just too big. Not only the profile picture and cover image, but also the font size of the text of tweets has been increased significantly. From 14px, it has been increased to 28px, which is just double of what it used to be, and this way much less is visible in one go.

The new profile page is very much changed from the old one, and whether or not this change would prove beneficial to Twitter Inc (NASDAQ:TWTR), in terms of growth rate, only time will tell.
