Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is planning to unveil a redesign of its mobile news feed on March 7, according to the invitations it sent to media today. The social media giant is also in the process of updating its Timelines. It tested the new Timeline design on the accounts of some New Zealand users.

Facebook To Unveil New Feed Design At March 7th Event

The March 7 event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Pacific. TechCrunch’s Josh Constine saw an employee-only redesign on an iOS device that had a new mobile news feed. It featured full-screen photo tiles and text over images, a look that’s more like information streams being used in other mobile apps like Flipboard or Google+. There’s no word yet on if the layout he saw will be the one unveiled by Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) on the seventh.

At the company’s last major event, we saw their Graph Search feature, which is in the process of being rolled out to users right now. That event was less than two months ago. Of course there’s a chance that the new mobile news feed design could incorporate Graph Search in new ways. We won’t know until we see it fully operational.

The new Timeline layout that has been seen on the accounts of some users in New Zealand features one column on the right with all of the user’s updates and posts. The about section is on the left side of the profile, and the Timeline’s year milestones are on the right sidebar.

The new layout is also expected to feature a new status update feature and a new “Like” button, which should make it easier for users to tell the difference between a Facebook page and an official page.
