Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) founder, Mark Zuckerberg, is set to hold a swanky fundraiser at his home for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (a Republican), also known as “The Boss.” Zuckerberg knows a thing or two about laying down money to speak to someone important. Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) recently began testing a feature that would enable users of the site to message Zuckerberg directly for $100.
TechCrunch reports that Zuckerberg and Christie met on the set of Oprah Winfrey’s show where they appeared with Cory Booker, the mayor of Newark, N.J. Zuckerberg had reportedly donated $100 million to the City of Newark to help improve the schools there. A spokesperson for the social media giant said Zuckerberg and his wife respect Christie and have been working with them on efforts to reform the education system in Newark.

Christie is one of those politicians people love to hate (even more so than the average politician). He is mostly known for speaking out against his own party. Traditionally, the Republican Party hasn’t been supported much by Silicon Valley, so the fact that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s founder is having a fundraiser for the most outspoken anti-Republican Republican isn’t really helping the party.
Most of the big players in the tech industry support the Democrat Party, so it seems to make sense that if anyone in Silicon Valley was going to support a Republican, it would be Gov. Christie, who’s about the most anti-Republican you can get and still belong to the party. Of course politicians can always cast doubts about their party when they disagree, but some would say that Christie has crossed the line a few times.
