BlackBerry hasn’t yet made an official announcement regarding the DTEK60 device, but it is already up for pre-order in Canada and the U.S. The device is up for pre-order on B&H for $499.99, reports Android Authority.

No shipping date confirmed

On pre-ordering the handset from B&H, you will get a black soft-shell case and a rapid travel charger for free. It means savings of $49.98, says GSM Arena. The retailer, however, does not list when the phone is expected to ship. If you are still interested in placing an order on B&H, an important thing to be noted here is that the device will be GSM-compatible only, so it won’t be possible for Sprint or Verizon users in the U.S. to use it, notes Android Authority.

A few weeks ago, the DTEK60 device was leaked on BlackBerry’s website. It is known that the device, code-named Argon internally, passed through the FCC in the U.S.

BlackBerry DTEK60 specs

The BlackBerry DTEK60 device sports a 5.5-inch quad HD display and will come with a 21MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. It has a powerful Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM. The battery is powerful too, at 3,000mAh, and the device will run on Android Marshmallow. The design is quite simple with nothing amazing to be talked about, and BlackBerry probably hasn’t even designed it.

The screen resolution is 2560×1440. It is an all-touch screen with an intuitive gesture-based navigation. It is the first device from BlackBerry to feature a fingerprint scanner. The powerful battery allows for 26 hours of talk time and standby time of up to 14 days. The battery can be charged quickly, as it comes with Quick Charge 3.0 tech. The smartphone has a USB Type-C port and a convenience key as well.

Will the DTEK60 be a hit?

BlackBerry has struggled for years and eventually decided to step into the Android market with the Priv. With a lot of hopes attached to it, the Canadian firm crafted it beautifully and made it very secure like all BlackBerry devices, but it didn’t fare well, unfortunately.

BlackBerry continued making smartphones even after that, and the last device it released was the DTEK50. Again, the device failed to do well, as it had several shortcomings, such as an underwhelming screen, poor camera and weak battery. It seems that the DTEK60 will be a higher-end smartphone, and it will be interesting to see how it competes with powerful devices from Samsung and Google, namely, the Galaxy S7 and Pixel range.
