One of the plus point of Chrome browser is that it doesn’t slows down the browsing, even after installing many extensions. With such large number of extensions at Chrome Web Store, chances are that many users end up installing many extensions and then forget to disable it. It would be great if you can enable and disable extensions according to the site being visited. This means that Gmail related extensions will be activated only when you’re actually on Gmail, Turn Off the Lights extension will be activated only when you are on YouTube, etc.
Extension Automation is an extension for “extensions”. This extension enables you to manage other extensions by automatically enabling or disabling them based on the webpages that you visit. With this extension, you can configure which extensions should remain active and on which particular websites.
There are many extensions that are useful only when you are on a certain type of page. But the problem is that extension will remain active on all webpages, no matter which page you are on. This means that there are numerous extensions active at a certain time which are of no use for the current website. For example, if you are not on YouTube, then you don’t need those YouTube extensions. Having these extensions running all the time means more resource usage by Chrome. That’s where Extension Automation can handle the activation and deactivation of all the extensions automatically, based on the page you are on. The criteria can be specified in the options menu.
After installing this extension, you can click on the icon of this extension (from the address bar) and select “enable extension” for the site that you are on.
You can also right-click on this icon, click on “options” and then configure the extension, with filter. In the “filter” field, you can enter website address, separated with comma. Basically you need to first select the extension, and the enter the URL in the filter box. That’s all you need to do. Once done, you can see that various extensions activate themselves when you visit that specific website.
You can configure this extension, either from clicking on the icon from the toolbar or from options page of this extension. Use whichever method you find comfortable.
This extension helps reduce the visual clutter which is added by various extensions and keeps them from running unnecessarily in the background. Now that this extension is configured, other extensions will only run when the “filter” is matched exactly. This extension is a must try for those who keep on experimenting with extensions, as it reduces the clutter and provides more resources to the active page.
Google Chrome users can install Extension Automation from Chrome Web Store.
