Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is rumored to launch a thinner MacBook later by the end of 2014 or early 2015. A new report indicated component production for the laptop already begun. The same report indicated Apple will halt production of the 13-inch MacBook Pro without Retina by the end of the year.

MacBook computer sale numbers

The report added the Cupertino-based tech giant sold a total of 4.41 million Mac computers from April to June 2014. This number is up 7% from the previous quarter and up 18% from previous year. In sales numbers, the MacBook product line contributed to about 80% of overall sales. Unfortunately, the report does not offer specific details as to when Apple will launch a thinner MacBook. Currently, the thinnest MacBook Air tapers from 1.7 centimeters to .3 centimeters. The MacBook Pro Retina has a thickness of 1.8 centimeters. Earlier reports indicated Apple would launch a 12-inch MacBook Air with retina display sometime this year.

The rumored laptop is also rumored to feature a more quiet design without a fan. This would be possible with Intel’s Broadwell chips, which were designed for low-powered notebook computers. The first batch of Broadwell chips are set to arrive in small quantities later on this year..

Apple’s goal to continually improve products

Apple is known for changing their products frequently and revolutionizing products to make the gadgets faster and more efficient. The MacBook is no exception.

Apple’s MacBook laptops don’t get as nearly as much press as more popular mobile devices such as the iPhone or iPad get. But it is still one of the company’s best-selling products. Like the iPhone and iPad, MacBooks are made from premium materials for a richer product and better user experience. A thinner Apple laptop would help the company continue to revolutionize the market with thinner technology products.
