Adobe’s New Cloud-Based Lightroom CC Lets You Edit Anywhere

Updated on

Adobe at its Max Creativity Conference on Thursday announced big changes to its best photography management and editing app – Lightroom. The company announced two versions of Lightroom – Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic. Both the versions, according to Adobe, would be more user-friendly, allowing users to edit the photo in real-time on different devices.

Adobe says that the Lightroom CC has a new interface and the new tools are easier to use. Further, the company notes that the tools are powered by Adobe Sensei, which is a machine learning technology deployed in the Lightroom to allow powerful organization and keyword searches.

Object recognition technology has evolved through the years, and Adobe’s Lightroom CC has embedded it perfectly. Early reviews suggest that Lightroom CC albums are analyzed automatically with a range of objects being identified. Adobe has also made it possible to share the work directly to social media from within the service. A professional photographer can share the work on any social media via the new Adobe Portfolio integration in Lightroom CC.

Lightroom CC (a reference to the company’s Creative Cloud subscription) would be available in a few ways. One is, it can be availed at $10 per month on a subscription basis, which comes with the capacity of 1 terabyte storage. The company believes this option would attract new users, as well as those who are specifically looking for Lightroom and no other programs such as Photoshop or Bridge.

Further, Lightroom CC is also being clubbed with the current Creative Cloud photography subscription plan, which offers 20GB of storage. Another option is the $19.99 per month all-in-one plan meant for photographers with 1TB of Cloud storage.

Lightroom CC works on both iOS and Android in addition to the web interface. All the images are backed in the cloud automatically, and can be accessed on all the platforms. The user gets the option to save or not to save the image locally, but cloud saving can’t be turned off, notes ExtremeTech.

Separately, the current version of the Lightroom app is being rebranded as Lightroom classic CC. Lightroom classic will also get a few updates such as file imports, image previews, faster boot speed, and masking tools. The company says that they are aware of users who are more used to the workflow file system along with the look and feel of the “old” Lightroom, so have decided not to chuck the older version.

Adobe also launched three apps that were available in a beta capacity so far. These apps are Adobe Character Animator CC for 2D character animations, Adobe XD CC for user interface design and Adobe Dimension CC for 2D to 3D compositing.

At the event, Bryan Lamkin, executive vice president and general manager of Digital Media at Adobe said, “Adobe continues to lead the creative revolution, driving modernization and innovation that will accelerate the creative process across all platforms and devices.” Further, Lamkin noted that Adobe launched the new generation of Creative Cloud with a range of new capabilities, allowing creative professionals and enthusiasts to express themselves and exhibit their full potential anytime, anywhere and on a range of devices.
