iPhone 6 vs. Samsung Galaxy S5: Pitting One Rumor Against Another

Updated on

The iPhone 6 and the Galaxy S5 aren’t even close to being unveiled, and yet, people can’t stop talking about them. In fact, the iPhone 6 has been a hot topic among techies since before the iPhone 5 even came out. Now we’re starting to hear rumors about the Galaxy S5 too. So what do the rumors suggest about these two handsets? Paul Briden of Know Your Mobile collected the best of the best rumors to see what may be in store.

iPhone 6 and Galaxy S5 materials and build

Samsung fans have long been clamoring for the company to ditch the plastic casing and offer the Galaxy S5 in a metal backing. Unfortunately these rumors are again rearing their ugly heads, but if history is anything to go by, Samsung could disappoint in this department. Besides, another rumor suggested that the company isn’t going to use metal for the S5, but rather, for another future handset like the rumored Galaxy F.

While metal is the biggest hope for Samsung fans, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) fans are hoping for a bigger screen on the iPhone 6. Like the ones about a metal Galaxy S5, these rumors won’t go away either as analysts suggest a variety of different sizes, from 4.5 inches all the way up to 5.5 inches. And again, Apple could disappoint on this one, just as it did with the iPhone 5S.

The internals of the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S5

Another question Samsung fans have been pondering is whether the Galaxy S5 will feature a 64-bit just like Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone 5S did. Of course the iPhone 6 will undoubtedly have a 64-bit chip, and it could be twice as fast as the one in the iPhone 5S. It’s pretty typical for Apple to double the speed between chip models.

Samsung, however, plays by different rules than Apple. While Apple favors a dual-core design, Samsung has been boosting the number of cores, bringing it up to eight now. It’s really anyone’s guess whether the Galaxy S5 will move to 64-bit architecture, but Samsung certainly has the capability to do it.
