Zynga Inc (NASDAQ:ZNGA), the world’s leading provider of online social game services, announced today the launch of its “Oh, What Fun!”, a digital charity drive, using the game Toys for Tots. The Game fund raising activity will be used for less fortunate kids all across the United States.
For the past 65 years, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation has been organizing charity events on special occasions, including X-Mas, presenting gifts to less fortunate children from all across the United States. This year, teaming up with Zynga, Toys for Tots aims for a major fundraiser that is arranged to last for the next couple of weeks.
This charitable drive, as announced by Zynga Inc (NASDAQ:ZNGA), will last for the next 5 weeks, starting from November 28, 2012 through December 31, 2012. During this time period, players from all across the world will be able to contribute directly via in-game purchases within the game.
As part of their digital charity drive, in Farmville, one of the most popular social games from Zynga Inc (NASDAQ:ZNGA), ‘Cheer-Ewe-Up’ – a horseback-riding sheep game – will play an important role. Players can purchase the sheep for $1 and send it to other players, while 100% of their 1$ donation will directly go to Toys for Tots.
Gaining popularity as Toys for Tots’ first big online fundraising activity, this charity campaign features seven of Zynga’s most popular games, including Words With Friends and Farmville, enabling millions of online gamers to make a direct contribution to the cause, while playing their favorite games by Zynga.
“Every child deserves the gift of play during the holidays. Partnering with Zynga for our largest digital fundraising initiative to date, it’s now easier than ever for people to help children less fortunate this holiday season,” said Bill Grein, retired Marine Corps Major and Vice President of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
Zynga Inc (NASDAQ:ZNGA) CEO Mark Pincus says, “We loved the idea that our players could actually give the gift of play to others while they were playing,”. Sharing his views about this campaign Pincus adds, “We think it is really going to resonate with our players.”
With more than 300 million online gamers playing various games by Zynga, this charity campaign seems like a great idea for it has the potential to spread joy and cheer in the form of small donations coming from many players.
“No matter which Zynga Inc (NASDAQ:ZNGA) games people play, there’s a good chance that they will learn about and consider supporting our program.” says Bill Grein, VP Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
