Twitter has come up with one more promised feature that will allow new users to connect with the site easily and smoothly
Twitter has been testing one more feature called “Instant Timeline” on Android phones since last week. New users generally find it difficult to sign up for Twitter. With the new feature, the micro-blogging site is aiming to make it easier for them to sign up, log in and stay engaged.
More ease for new users
Those who sign up for Twitter are asked to give their areas of interest and other related information, which generally takes some time. However, according to Vindu Goel of The New York Times, the cumbersome sign-up process will be a thing of the past very soon following the full-fledged launch of “Instant Timeline.”
This app will automatically search for relevant accounts to follow and pour in relevant tweets that Twitter feels will be of interest to a particular user. It is expected that new users will not be pushed to follow these accounts.
Instant Timeline may not erase every interface problem, but it is a substantial improvement to the sign-up process. “Setting up an account is quick and nearly painless, and you are then plunged into Twitter’s information stream,” says Goel.
Will it help Twitter accelerate growth?
As of now, there is no information from Twitter about the new feature. The company already announced the feature Timeline this past November during its first ever Analyst Day. At the event, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said, “We believe that anyone should be able to come to Twitter and immediately feel deeply immersed in that world.”
The new feature is a part of the company’s plan to move forward its development pace following a year marked with criticism when some analysts and investors took a cautious tone about the slow user growth. To attract new users, “Instant Timeline seems” to be a potent tool from Twitter.
The Costolo-led company knows that its form factor is the biggest hurdle in its growth. In November, Twitter assured investors that it will introduce a feature that will allow new users to see interesting content without going through the traditional setup process.
For quite some time, Twitter has been lagging competition when it comes to displaying search results from a computer algorithm, a technique that is used by Facebook to a great effect. However, this new feature from Twitter from will certainly give a push to its efforts to accelerate user growth.
