Pokémon Go has a lot going on, such as the recent Halloween event, the probable addition of 100 new Pokémon (in the future), and daily bonuses. But that’s not all; it looks like the company is working on a big feature for the game.

Possible hints about connecting Pokémon Go with 3DS

In recently leaked ROMs, the data miners have found the code for Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, hinting that soon it will become possible for players to transfer Pokémon from the mobile app to the 3DS games, reports BGR.

In an interview late last month, Pokémon Sun and Moon director Junichi Masuda told Game Informer that he and his team “want to have a kind of way to connect the two, or have a way for people who enjoyed one to enjoy some of their progress in the other.”

However, he added that the functionality would be a ways off.

Also Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori (the game director), hinted at this Pokémon Go and Pokémon Sun and Moon compatibility a few months ago. In an article dated July 23, Nintendo Everything explained this, saying that Masuda and Ohmori were considering linkage with the smartphone app Pokémon Go, which was released earlier that month.

Masuda said the game was about catching Pokémon by walking all around the world. And they had different appearance methods and catch rates in Sun/Moon even with the same Pokémon species, he said.

“If they are to link the two games, they have to do it in a way that doesn’t break the balance of either game and even end up making both games boring. They still need to find an interesting idea that could make both games more interesting,” the article said.

Groundwork for transfer feature already in place

The roll-out of the connectivity between the app and the 3DS games might take weeks or even months to roll out.

But there is a leaked image of Sun and Moon’s “Text File: 70,” about which Pokémon Go Hub says, “It describes where the Pokémon originated from.”

It shows sources to more regions where players can obtain Pokémon, including Pokémon Link and Poke Pelagio.

To prove or disprove something, a single vague text is not sufficient, but it still holds true that some kind of link between the two games will be there sooner or later. It can’t be said for now whether or not the Pokémon Go transfer feature will actually be baked into Pokémon Sun and Moon when they are launched later this month. However, it appears as if the groundwork for the feature is in place.
