Tesla CEO Teases Update That ‘Uncorks The Full Performance’ Of P100D

Updated on

Tesla has set its aim on making a Model S that delivers even higher speeds than the current version. CEO Elon Musk has hinted that the company is working on an update to the Model S’ Ludicrous Mode that will turn the EV into an even faster car.

Tesla wants its car to be the fastest

Musk recently tweeted: “There will be a P100D Ludicrous Easter egg soon that uncorks the full performance.”

This has sparked speculations about the Model S’ new acceleration potential. There are not many details known about the update, but since we know that after the latest Ludicrous mode update on the Model S P100D, the car could accelerate to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. As a result, we can only imagine what the company is up to.

The Model S P100D is currently the third-fastest (by acceleration) production car on the earth. Ferrari’s LaFerrari and Porsche’s 918 Spyder are the only two cars that are ahead of the Model S, notes Digital Trends. It seems like Tesla is going for the record this time.

Musk is known for his somewhat wry sense of humor when describing his product announcements. Hence, there are chances that he could be cryptically referring to yet another feel-good feature. Since Musk used the term “uncorks,” it could mean that the hint may not be as literal as it seems, but that will be known only when Tesla reveals the update.

New options for the Model S

Apart from the expected performance boost, there will be a few other new options to the Model S, like a panoramic glass sunroof. Musk said that developing the new roof was a very difficult task, but it makes the interior feel amazing.

Also Tesla has decided to enter the glass development industry as well and will use the technology for SolarCity’s new roof panels and Tesla’s next-gen vehicles.

There are now more vehicles in the Model S lineup than ever before. The Model S family includes 60, 60D, 75, 75D, 90D and P100D tiers. based on charge and performance, but the price gap between the 90D and P100D is quite large. Going by the historical trend, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that Tesla may soon introduce a model between the 90D and P100D, says Digital Trends.

On Friday, Tesla shares closed up 1.68% at $190.56. Year to date, the stock is down almost 20%, while in the last year, it is down almost 18%.
