Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930)’s flagship phablet Galaxy Note 4 is the newest victim of the bendgate. When the reports of the iPhone 6 Plus bending out of shape surfaced, Samsung tried to exploit the Apple phone’s bendgate. It poked fun at its U.S. rival. But now the Korean company’s own flagship device is easily bending out of shape.
Bending of Galaxy Note 4 or iPhone 6 Plus isn’t a design flaw
Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy previously showed how the iPhone 6 Plus bends under a certain amount of pressure. On request of fans, Hilsenteger tried out the bendgate experiment on the Galaxy Note 4 and its predecessor. The test shows that the Note 3 held up very well against the bending pressure, mainly due to its plastic design and an interior chassis.
But the Galaxy Note 4 with its metal design bends in the same spot as the iPhone 6 Plus. The test proved that any smartphone with a metal chassis can bend. By comparison, devices with a plastic design retain their shape. Therefore, the bending of iPhone 6 Plus or Galaxy Note 4 shouldn’t be considered a design flaw. Now Samsung needs to rethink its strategy of criticizing the iPhone 6 Plus.
Samsung delays the UK launch of Galaxy Note 4
In another development, the Korean electronics giant said that the UK launch of Galaxy Note 4 would be delayed by a week. Samsung was scheduled to launch the Note 4 in the UK on October 10. But due to an “amazing interest and demand” for its new phones, the company had to push the release date to Oct.17. Notably, the Note 4 is also scheduled to hit the U.S. market on Oct.17.
Galaxy Note 4 boasts of a 5.7-inch QHD display, a 16-megapixel camera with Optical Image Stabilization, an improved S Pen stylus, 3,220mAh battery, Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and a 2.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor. DisplayMate‘s display tests revealed last month that the Galaxy Note 4 has the “best smartphone display ever.”
The phone also has a fast-charging technology, allowing its battery to go from 0% to 50% in less than 30 minutes.
