Research In Motion Ltd (BBRY) Has A Plan In India

Smartphone users are growing at a rapid pace in India, which is the second biggest market for telecommunications services. Experts and analysts are also betting big on the Internet services as it offers higher returns compared to voice services.

Sales of the Blackberry devices have been declining in India owing to increased competition from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930), which have been boosting demand for their devices by innovative offers and financing options.

The new plan offers all services for Rs 129 ($2.5) per GB in some of the regions. Services include email, BlackBerry Messenger, instant messaging, social networking, Internet browsing, as well as access to the BlackBerry World application store.

The new plan will be available for BlackBerry OS 7 smartphones, which includes BlackBerry Curve 9220, BlackBerry Curve 9320, BlackBerry Bold 9990, BlackBerry Bold 9 smartphone models.

It looks like the new plans and devices from the company are helping it a bit to regain some of its past glory.

Option traders are expecting Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) to spike further. The smartphone maker has also received a positive note from Jefferies yesterday. OptionMonster’s tracking programs revealed yesterday some probing prints in the September 27 calls, which were bought for $0.22. Such a high strike, for a stock that ended the session up 3.93 percent at $15.61, was eye catching. Even September 19 calls were active but were much closer to the money.

Since options are cheaper compared to shares, they can provide a potential leverage to Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) if used correctly. Yesterday, there were about 120,000 Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) calls traded versus 44,500 puts, resulting in a tripling of the total option volume in its daily average.

Like Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB), the iPhone maker was also in the news with a gain of more than 5 percent. Though both companies are distinct in most of the metrics, still they have a few similarities in terms of product.

In other news, Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) chief executive told that, in five years, the popularity of tablets will decline, saying “I don’t think there’ll be a reason to have a tablet any more,” but expects to sell “tens of millions” of its new keyboard-based Q10 handsets.
