Since its inception last year, Chinese vendor Realme has been churning out a new smartphone almost every month – competing directly against Xiaomi’s Redmi series. In just one year, Realme has launched nine phones and has seen phenomenal sales in China and India. The Realme brand is owned by BBK Electronics, the same company that owns other popular Chinese brands like Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus. The latest Realme 3 Pro goes up directly against Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7 Pro.
With its new mid-range phone, Realme threatens Xiaomi’s dominance in the segment. Here we take a look at Realme 3 Pro vs Redmi Note 7 Pro comparison to see how the two handsets stack up in terms of specifications, camera, and price.
Realme 3 Pro vs Redmi Note 7 Pro: Design
Visually, both phones look similar from the front. Just like many other mid-range phones, they have a bottom chin and a notch at the top. The chin on the Redmi Note 7 Pro appears slightly thicker than on the Realme 3 Pro. While Realme has opted for a waterdrop notch, the Note 7 Pro gets a dot notch. Both devices retain the 3.5mm headphone jack.
For some reason, the Realme 3 Pro ships with a micro-USB port for charging. The Redmi Note 7 Pro comes with the USB-C port, which is far more convenient. Both phones have a circular fingerprint sensor on the back panel for authentication and security. The Realme handset measures 156.8 x 74.2 x 8.3 mm and weighs 172g. In contrast, the Redmi Note 7 Pro measures 159.2 x 75.2 x 8.1 mm and weighs 186g.
The Realme 3 Pro has a gradient finish on the back with S-shaped lines, which gives it a premium feel. It has a multi-layer plastic body, which doesn’t feel as nice as the glass back of the Note 7 Pro. The Note 7 Pro’s rear glass panel is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5. Xiaomi has launched the Note 7 Pro in Nebula Red, Neptune Blue, and Space Black colors. The Realme 3 Pro comes in Carbon Gray, Nitro Blue, and Lightning Purple color options.
Display
Both devices have similar displays. They both use Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 for display protection. The Realme 3 Pro features a 6.3-inch IPS LCD screen with 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and 409ppi of pixel density. It has an impressive 83.7% screen-to-body ratio. It comes with Widevine L1 certification to stream true HD content on platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
The Redmi Note 7 Pro gets a 6.3-inch IPS LCD screen with 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and 409ppi of pixel density. It has a slightly lower 81.4% screen-to-body ratio. Xiaomi claims to have used the best quality LCD panel on the Note 7 Pro to enhance the multimedia experience on the device.
Internal specs
Both devices are powerful enough to play demanding games. The Realme 3 Pro runs Qualcomm’s mid-range octa-core Snapdragon 710 processor paired with Adreno 616 GPU. It runs Realme’s custom ColorOS 6 skin on top of Android 9 Pie, which means it is loaded with bloatware. It has dual SIM card slots and a microSD card slot that supports external storage of up to 256GB.
The Realme 3 Pro comes in three different configurations of 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, 6GB RAM with 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage. It packs an impressive 4,045mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 fast charging support. The 20W fast charger delivers 50% charge in just 30 minutes.
The Redmi Note 7 Pro also supports dual SIM functionality and external storage of up to 256GB via a microSD card slot. It runs Xiaomi’s custom MIUI skin on top of Android 9 Pie. The Note 7 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 675 chipset and Adreno 612 graphics processor.
The Note 7 Pro comes in two different configurations – one with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, and another with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. It packs a 4,000mAh battery with 18W Quick Charge 4 technology for fast charging.
Realme 3 Pro vs Redmi Note 7 Pro: Camera
Both devices have a dual camera setup on the back and a single lens on the front for selfies. The Realme 3 Pro gets a 16MP primary lens with f/1.7 aperture and a 5MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. On the front, it has a 25MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. It supports 960fps slow-motion video recording, an Ultra HD mode, and a Nightscape mode that allows you to capture brighter photos in low-light conditions.
The Redmi Note 7 Pro sports a 48-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 5MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. Xiaomi has used Sony’s IMX586 sensor for higher resolution. It has a 13MP selfie camera with AI features on the front. The rear camera includes HDR support, dual LED flash, autofocus, and panorama mode.
Price
The Realme 3 Pro is set to go on sale in India on April 29th. It is going to cost ₹13,999 for the 4GB+64GB version, ₹15,999 for the 6GB+64GB variant, and ₹16,999 for the 6GB+128GB model in India. The pricing is in the same range as the Note 7 Pro. Xiaomi’s device has a price tag of ₹13,999 for the 4GB+64GB model and ₹16,999 for the 6GB+128GB variant. It is available in limited quantities on Xiaomi’s official website and at online retailers.
