We recently took a look at whether the art of jailbreaking was dead or not. While the general consensus among many appears to be that the best days of jailbreaking are behind us; there may still be a public iOS 10.3.2 jailbreak coming down the pipeline. We do know that it’s possible to jailbreak iOS 10.3.2 but the method has not been made public and it may never be. With iOS 10.3.3 now available, some users may want to move along to the newest software. Luckily, you can have your cake and eat it too.
If the iOS 10.3.2 jailbreak does get released publicly then users will need a way to downgrade back to the older version of iOS. The only way to do this is to save the iOS 10.3.2 SHSH2 blobs while the firmware is still being signed by Apple. By doing so, users can safely upgrade to iOS 10.3.3 while waiting for the potential public iOS 10.3.2 jailbreak. Without the SHSH2 blobs, users will be stuck on iOS 10.3.3 and may potentially miss out on that jailbreak goodness.
Of course, this whole article is a lot of “what ifs.” There is no public iOS 10.3.2 jailbreak – but what if?! What if you don’t save your SHSH2 blobs?! A large majority of iPhone users probably won’t be concerned with jailbreaking their device so these “what ifs” don’t really matter much. However, for those who still have dreams of breaking into Apple’s walled garden and jailbreaking their device, these “what ifs” are very important.
If you have never gone through the process of saving SHSH2 blobs before, the process can seem a little daunting. However, there really isn’t much to it. There’s a web based tool called TSS Saver that makes saving SHSH2 blobs pretty easy. Here’s how to do it:
- Plug your iPhone into your computer and fire up iTunes. Click on the “Summary” tab then click on “Serial Number.”
- Copy your ECID. TSS Saver will need this unique ECID number to do its job.
- You also need your model identifier. Use the same process as you used to get your ECID but keep clicking “Serial Number” until you see the model identifier.
- Now go to the TSS Saver web tool.
- Paste your ECID and select the correct model identifier from the dropdown menu.
- Click submit, let TSS Saver do its thing, grab a snack, whatever.
- If everything worked correctly then you should be taken to a page that allows you to download your SHSH2 blobs.
As you can see, the process is relatively easy to save your SHSH2 blobs. You don’t have to be a very technical user to pull this off. Now, with your SHSH2 blobs saved, you can upgrade to iOS 10.3.3. and enjoy all of the new bug fixes and security patches while still hedging your bets for a public iOS 10.3.2 jailbreak. It’s hard to say if we will ever see that jailbreak publicly. We know it exists but the price that companies will pay for iOS exploits is far more valuable to most than the glory of releasing a public jailbreak. Luckily, jailbreaking isn’t as important as it once was and iPhone users can still enjoy their non-jailbroken devices.
