PS4 Online Multiplayer: Sony Offers Free Access This Weekend

Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758) is offering a free access to PS4 online multiplayer this weekend.

PS4 is the second-fastest, best-selling console in the United Kingdom. Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758) sold one million PS4 units in the country in just 42 weeks. The company sold more than 10 million units worldwide as of August 10, 2014.

PlayStation senior community specialist, Kristine Steimer said the free access to PS4 online multiplayer will start on September 26 at 12:01 A.M until September 28 at 11:59 P.M. (Pacific Time).

Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE)(TYO:6758) is opening the online multiplayer to give PS4 owners the chance to try out and play the recent game titles with their friends. The company’s new titles include Destiny, Madden NFL 15, FIFA 15 and Diablo III.

According to Steimer, “Although we’re opening up the multiplayer portion of PlayStation Plus, our members receive a lot more than just that.” She encouraged PS4 players to check out all the benefits of the PlayStation Plus membership.

Sony extends partnership with Unity Technologies

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), a unit of Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758)recently extended its partnership with Unity Technologies to provide Unity for PlayStation. The companies originally signed a partnership agreement on March 2013.

Unity Technologies is a multiplatform engine and development tools provider. Sony and Unity Technologies agreed to offer Unity Pro for PlayStation, PS4, PS3 and PlayStation Vita, without additional cost to licensed developers.

“We are very happy to begin offering Unity for our PlayStation platforms at no additional cost to developers. Some of the most exciting and high-quality games are being created in the vibrant indie community,” said Teiji Yutaka, senior vice president, division deputy president, R&D Division of Sony Computer Entertainment.

On the other hand, David Helgason, CEO of Unity Technologies said, “This is an exciting step to make this clear and easy, and to guarantee that developers using Unity have a fantastic opportunity to participate in the PlayStation developer community.”

In addition, he noted that “amazing Unity-authored games” are coming out, and many games are under development. Some of the Unity-authored games already available or in production include Assault Android Cactus, BroForce, CounterSpy, and DEEMO, among others.
