OnePlus Power Bank Is ‘Officially Out,’ New One May Come Soon

Updated on

OnePlus released an inexpensive but powerful power bank called the OnePlus Power Bank in 2015 shortly after releasing its first smartphone, the OnePlus One. Now more than two years after the launch of the power bank, the China-based smartphone maker has revealed that the product is officially out of stock.

What to expect with the new OnePlus Power Bank

In a tweet, the Chinese company not only revealed that its OnePlus Power Bank is “officially out out at the OnePlus.net  store,” but it also asked fans to “stay tuned for some exciting new products.” It means OnePlus is probably telling us in its own secretive way that a new power bank could be unveiled in the near future.

Some may argue that we are reading too much into the words. That is possible, considering that several companies say the same thing (stay tuned for more updates, etc.) after announcing that a product is out of stock. However, it is completely unusual for a company like OnePlus to sit idle without a power bank in their store for a long time, notes Android Headlines. We also cannot ignore that the Shenzhen-based company has been due to launch a new power bank for quite some time now.

Given OnePlus’ past products, there are good chances that the upcoming model will be affordable as well. In addition, the upcoming power bank, if there is one in development, will likely offer a generous amount of power and could even be compatible with the Dash Charge, notes PhoneArena. The power bank is also expected to provide fast charging on both ends (input and output), notes AH.

The original OnePlus Power Bank, which sold for less than $20, featured a 10,000 mAh battery. It had two USB ports for simultaneous charging and a microUSB port and took roughly 5.5 hours to charge. The power bank had dimensions of 142.8×72.6×16.2mm, weighed only 220 grams, and was available in sandstone black and silk white like the OnePlus One. Further, the OnePlus Power Bank sported 4 LED indicators so the user could know how much battery it still has (each LED represented roughly 25% charge).

It could come alongside the OnePlus 5

OnePlus has already confirmed the OnePlus 5 for this summer, and it is possible that the company will unveil the power bank alongside the much-anticipated smartphone.

The OnePlus 5 is expected to come with a Full HD 5.5-inch display and a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It will likely be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with an Adreno 540 GPU and pack 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The handset will possibly run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and come with a 3,600 mAh battery. It’s expected to have a front-facing fingerprint scanner, similar to what we have seen on the OnePlus 3 and 3T.

Several leaks have suggested that the handset will come with a dual-camera setup and Dash Charge 2.0. None of the specs are confirmed, although we can expect it to offer great camera performance as the company recently partnered with DxO, which is popular for its photography benchmark DxOMark.

“Working alongside DxO, we’re confident the OnePlus 5 will be capable of capturing some of the clearest photos around,” OnePlus said while announcing the partnership.
