OnePlus 7T is currently one of the best smartphones on the market, but like most phones, it is not perfect. Users have already raised several issues with the handset (many of which are fixed now), but one particular issue is presently trending. Many are reporting a OnePlus 7T display tint issue, where the display is showing a colorful tint when used in dark mode or at low brightness.

OnePlus 7T display tint issue: what is it?

The OnePlus 7T features a 6.55-inch 1080p display screen, but some users have noticed an issue with it. As per the affected users, their unit is displaying a tint when using the dark theme or when the screen is set at low brightness levels. The users say that the tint sometimes shows a green, purplish or reddish color.

“…..before buying my 7T I’ve seen some people (not that much but still) talking about their display having a green (sometimes also purple or red) tint on their screen when looking a [sic] black/grey backgrounds at 40% brightness or less (super noticeable in a dark room/environment). Well, I’m UNhappy (lol) to announce that after receiving my 7T this Friday, I’ve noticed the exact same flaws on my device, which seems to be faulty as the other….” one affected user said on the OnePlus forum.

The OnePlus 7T display tint issue does appear to be quite widespread, as many users have raised the issue on Twitter and Reddit as well. Users say that the OnePlus 7T display tint issue is more visible in the dark room/environment or if the brightness is set at 40% or less.

Some also report seeing a color difference between the top half and bottom half of the screen. “The top appears little greeny when grey colour is to be rendered. Is this a faulty display and should I apply for replacement? It becomes more prominent while using night mode,” another user said on the OnePlus forum.

OnePlus does not see it as quality issue

OnePlus, on its end, has acknowledged the OnePlus 7T display tint issue, but does not admit it as a quality issue. In a post on the OnePlus forum, the company said that a “slight display discoloration” might occur in extreme low light conditions due to the properties of the AMOLED display.

Further, the Chinese company said it is “not a quality issue” and it won’t affect the daily usage or the durability of the AMOLED display. To the users seeing the OnePlus 7T display tint issue, the company asks them to contact customer service if the “phenomenon” is affecting the normal use of the device.

Some users, however, say that the company has replaced their faulty units. “Yeah, I went to OnePlus service centre and got it replaced. There was a problem in the display and they confirmed the same, then replaced the phone with a brand new one,” one user said.

On the other hand, a few users who contacted customer service, were told that it is not an issue. “I went to service centre they said it [sic] not a issue. I mean wtf and the man said if all the phones have it is [sic] not an issue,” said another user on OnePlus forum.

Some who purchased the phone on Amazon also confirmed the same OnePlus 7T display tint issue. A user said that the Amazon technician also said that it is not an issue. However, when he took the phone to the service center, they formatted it, but were unable to address the issue and finally agreed to issue a replacement unit.

One user even claimed that the majority of the OnePlus 7T devices are getting this tint. However, not all are raising the issue as they believe it to be normal behavior. Further, the user said that he is also afraid of asking for a replacement, fearing the new device might have more issues. On the current device, the user says he is getting a reddish tint while using YouTube, Quick drawer, and Notification panel.

Why should OnePlus fix it?

As of now, it is not clear if the issue is related to the hardware or software. One user, however, claims that the company can fix the issue temporarily by changing the UI theme from to grey to dark black.

Affected OnePlus 7T users, obviously, are not satisfied with the response from the company that the tint issue is not a quality problem. Users would want the company to fix it, or to at least admit it is an issue so that affected users can replace the device.

We also hope that the company addresses the issue in the right way, something it has done in the past with other issues and phones. OnePlus is known for listening to the feedback and also acting upon it. Such attentiveness has helped the company to make a mark in the global smartphone market in such a short time.

OnePlus came out with OnePlus One in 2014, and now in 2019, it is among the top smartphone makers. To ensure that it continues to move up the ladder, it would have to meet the expectations of its customers, and this includes addressing issues with its devices.
