Nintendo is pretty busy these days. Its Switch console is already raking in huge sales, and it recently launched Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Now, to make itself even busier, the Japanese firm has shared the details of the first downloadable content pack (DLC) for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Nintendo wants you to buy an Expansion Pass
If you have spent at least 60 hours in Breath of the Wild, then Mario Kart will surely be a good change for you. But the Japanese game maker wants its players back in Hyrule this summer with the DLC pack. The game‘s content pack shows off several new items, outfits and armor, and a new difficulty level.
The new options of clothing include a mask which will shudder whenever a Korok is near the player and Phantom armor that comes with a heavy purple plate which gives Link demon-esque horns. There are nods to older Zelda games as well, including the Mask of Majora (from Majora’s Mask), the green onesie worn by creepy series stalwart Tingle, and the helmet worn by Twilight Princess Midna, notes The Verge.
The first Breath of the Wild DLC content pack will arrive at some point in the summer months. Players will have to purchase the Expansion Pass for $19.99 to unlock the pack. The gaming giant will unlock DLC Pack 2 during the holidays and DLC Pack 1 over the summer. Once the purchase is done, three new treasure chests will go into the game’s Great Plateau area as a bonus, notes PCMag.
Breath of the Wild DLC packs: what to expect?
“We are always looking for new ways to provide fun and exciting experiences for our fans,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of sales and marketing. “Whether you have already completed the adventure or are just getting ready to paraglide into Hyrule for the first time, this new downloadable Expansion Pass makes this massive game even bigger and more engrossing.”
The two planned DLC packs will be released for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U versions. The first pack called The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – The Master Trials, will not just add the challenging new Hard Mode to the game but also the Trial of the Sword and some other new useful features like more hours of gameplay through the addition of Hero’s Path Mode, a Korok Mask, and a Travel Medallion.
When you make it all the way through the Trial of the Sword, “The true power of the Master Sword will awaken and always be in its glowing powered-up state,” says Nintendo.
DLC Pack 2, which players will get by default by just purchasing the Expansion Pass, is expected to add an original story, a new dungeon, and some new challenges. More details about DLC Pack 2 will likely be released at the end of the summer.
Nintendo revealed late last month that over 2.76 million copies of Breath of the Wild were sold for the Switch, making it the best-selling game on the console so far.
