After months of rumors, speculations, and tiresome wait, Verizon customers can finally buy Google’s flagship Nexus 6 phablet. The Big Red started selling Nexus 6 on its website on Thursday, March 12. The device arrives on Verizon four months after its initial release. Verizon seems to be late to party as the phone is already available on rival carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. Google is also selling Nexus 6 on its Play Store.
Verizon offers some freebies with Nexus 6
Verizon said the online purchase begins Thursday, March 12, but Nexus 6 will be available in stores on March 19. The wireless carrier offered no explanation for why it was so late to launch the widely acclaimed device. Interested buyers can pick up Nexus 6 for $250 on a two-year contract or they can choose to pay $27.08 a month for 24 months through Verizon Edge program. It will cost $649 off-contract.
The telecom carrier is throwing in some freebies to lure buyers. If you buy Nexus 6 through Verizon before March 31, you’ll get free six-month subscription to Google Play Music All Access. The search engine giant also offers a trial to its streaming music service, but that’s only for 30 days. The Verizon Nexus 6 runs Android 5.1 Lollipop right out of the box.
Was Verizon waiting for Android 5.1 Lollipop release?
The carrier is touting HD voice calling with other compatible Verizon devices. It also lets you use voice and data simultaneously, so you can make calls and use the Internet at the same time. Nexus 6 features 5.9-inch display, 3GB RAM, 32GB and 64GB built-in storage options, and 3200mAh battery. The phone is powered by 2.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor. Nexus 6 sports a 13-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization.
Experts believe that Verizon delayed bringing Nexus 6 to its network because it was waiting for the release of Android 5.1 Lollipop, which was announced Monday. The OS update addresses a number of issues found in the earlier versions of Lollipop, and brings a host of new features.
