Netflix, which is focusing on adding new shows to its portfolio, has now bagged the worldwide distribution rights for a new comedy feature, Manson Family Vacation, produced by the Duplass Brothers, claims a report from Variety. The video streaming company recently acquired the rights for Hannah Fidell’s movie 6 Years, and with Manson Family Vacation, it has entered into a second SXSW deal with Duplass Brothers.
Second deal with Duplass Brothers
It was learned in January that Netflix and the Duplass Brothers agreed on a four-picture film production contract, but it is not known for now if Manson Family Vacation is included in it or not.
Manson Family Vacation, which premiered at SXSW, is a story about the Manson Family murders and two brothers who visit the mansion during a road trip. The film was written and directed by J. Davis and stars Jay Duplass and Linas Phillips. As of now, there is no information on when the feature will be released by Netflix.
Netflix has been spending heavily on acquiring content that will interest viewers of all ages. The streaming service company has big expansion plans, so quality content is a must.
Netflix busy acquiring content
In an earlier deal with the Duplass Brothers a few days ago, the streaming company acquired the worldwide rights for 6 Years, directed by Hannah Fidell, who earlier directed the film A Teacher. The movie 6 Years, which also premiered at the SXSW Film Festival, stars Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story) and Ben Rosenfield (Boardwalk Empire).
Netflix is expected to premiere the movie on its streaming service and in all the markets it serves by the end of the year. According to a report from Deadline, the cost for the rights of the film is in the low-seven figures, and hence, could be around $1 million as per estimates.
Netflix also succeeded in adding Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts of No Nation about two weeks ago. Also Adam Sandler, who entered into a four-movie deal with Netflix in the last year, has already started work on Ridiculous 6, co-starring Taylor Lautner, Whitney Cummings and Dan Aykroyd.
