Netflix browsing has become easier now with the new ‘God Mode’ created by a San Francisco developer. God Mode works as a bookmarklet, making it possible to see all the titles in a particular category at one time.
‘God Mode’ to address horizontal scrolling
Netflix can be accessed on various devices, such as phones, tablets or on PCs through the web, all of which offer different comfort levels to users. It is easy for people to scroll through the list of content with the help of a finger on touch-screen devices, but it can be frustrating to do on a PC. For desktop users, Netflix browsing is very annoying at times as they have to scroll through all the titles available on the video–streaming service.
The new bookmarklet works with Chrome, Firefox and Safari browsers, and can be easily installed. To install, you just to go the website and drag the green bookmarklet button on the bookmarks bar of his or her browser. Once installed, you need to open Netflix.com, click the bookmarklet, and then enjoy browsing without horizontal scrolling. Looking for the next movie or show is a lot easier and faster with this simple adjustment.
Inspiration behind Netflix ‘God Mode’
Renan Cakirerk is a developer based in San Francisco, and the idea of creating the bookmarklet struck him one night when he was working late during a Netflix break.
“I opened Netflix and found myself waiting for the scrolling movies forever (again!), so I opened my Chrome Developer Tools and started playing with the CSS to get rid of the sliders,” he told Mashable. Cakirerk then wrote a script to automate the process, and then shared his creation.
Other developers can also make improvements to the bookmarklet code. Renan has made the code for the bookmarklet available on Github. As of now, it is only available for browsers. Therefore, subscribers using the Netflix app for viewing content will still have to deal with horizontal scrolling. That said, the new tool will certainly help browser users navigate through the long and growing list of content offered by the streaming company.
