Protesters demonstrating at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Cairo closed off al-Khalifa al-Ma’moun Street to vehicles on Friday.

Scores of protesters declared a sit-in in front of the ministry six days ago to demand toppling President Mohamed Mohamed Morsi and urge the Armed Forces to intervene to hold early presidential elections.

Masked men clash with Brotherhood members in Alexandria, five injured

Five people were injured when clashes broke out between a group of masked men and Muslim Brotherhood members at the latter’s headquarters in Alexandria’s Somouha on Friday.

The two parties exchanged stones and birdshots.

Security forces and large numbers of Muslim Brotherhood members surrounded the group’s headquarters to protect it against possible assaults in case of clashes.

Two anti-Mohamed Morsi marches are en route to Sidi Gaber Square in Alexandria to demand ousting the president.

While marching, the demonstrators held red cards with the word “Leave” on them.

Police: 37 people in possession of firearms detained

Thirty-seven people were detained on the Banha-Mansoura highway after they were found to be in possession of firearms and petrol jerry cans, head of the criminal police department in Qaliubiya said.

Those detained said they were on their way to Cairo to participate in the pro-Mohamed Morsi demonstration at Cairo’s Rab’aa al-Adaweya, Major General Mohamed al-Qosseri told the state news agency.

A group of Kafr Shukr residents had cut the Banha-Mansoura highway to protest against fuel shortages. Youths formed groups to regulate traffic.

Some youths came across four vehicles transporting the 37 detainees with firearms, petrol jerry cans and sticks and detained them until the police arrived to arrest them.

Islamists are holding demonstrations today at Rab’aa al-Adaweya Mosque in Cairo to declare their support for President Mohamed Mohamed Morsi.

Update: Dozens injured in Alexandria clashes between Islamists, opponents

At least thirty people were injured in clashes between Muslim Brotherhood members and their opponents in Alexandria’s Sidi Gaber. The injured were transferred to Alexandria University’s Central Hospital with injuries ranging from cuts to birdshots. Security forces “stand at the same distance from all Egyptians and will work on separating between the two sides to prevent them from clashing”, head of Alexandria’s security headquarters said. Brotherhood members fired birdshots at protesters who were marching near the group’s headquarters, al-Shorouk Portal reported. Brotherhood spokesman Anas al-Qadi said that hundreds of “Rebel” Campaign members are attacking the headquarters using petrol bombs and birdshots. The Muslim Brotherhood welcomes peaceful demonstrations but is against all forms of violence and bloodshed which the opposition has adopted last year, al-Qadi added in a statement.

Islamists demonstrating in Cairo declare sit-in until June 30

Islamist demonstrators currently rallying at Rab’aa al-Adaweya Mosque in Cairo will stage a sit-in until June 30, a Labour Party member said. The demonstrators will stage the sit-in to defend what they called President Mohamed Morsi’s legitimacy, party member Yasser Abdel Tawwab stated. Thousands of Islamists took part in a demonstration to declare their support for Mohamed Morsi two days before planned protests the opposition has called for to demand ousting the president. Participants in the million-man demonstration entitled “Legitimacy is a Red Line” include the Muslim Brotherhood and its Freedom and Justice Party, the Building and Development Party, the al-Azala Party, the al-Watan Party and the hardline Islamist al-Gamaa al-Islamiya group.

 Eyewitnesses: Residents storm FJP headquarters in Alexandria’s Hadra

Scores of residents in Alexandria’s al-Hadra stormed the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party headquarters to protest what they called the Brotherhood’s use of live ammunition against protesters in Sidi Gaber, eyewitnesses told Aswat Masriya. Thirty-six people were injured when clashes broke out in the city between supporters and opponents of President Mohamed Morsi, sources at Alexandria’s health head office said. Six of those injured were shot with live ammunition. Security forces fired teargas to disperse the protesters. Eyewitnesses reported that “snipers” on rooftops of buildings in Sidi Gaber area near the Brotherhood’s administrative office in Alexandria were aiming at the demonstrators. The snipers disappeared once five Armed Forces aircrafts flew at low altitudes above the area, they said.

One person died of gunshot wounds in Alexandria after clashes broke out between Muslim Brotherhood members and their opponents on Friday, medical sources at Sidi Gaber’s field hospital said.
