Lying Alvin Bragg

Months ago, I received a few emails from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg boasting about what a great job he was doing. I wrote back telling him basically that he was full of shit. He had campaigned largely on the promise that he would prosecute former President Donald Trump for financial crimes that he had committed before he was elected in 2016.

When he took office at the beginning of this year, Bragg’s predecessor, Cyrus Vance Jr, had left him with a well-researched case and a prosecution team ready to take it to the grand jury for an indictment. Trump’s former personal lawyer and all-around fixer, Michael Cohen, had provided a vast trove of evidence, and all Bragg’s team needed was the go-proceed with the case.

But pretty soon Bragg began dragging his feet, eventually causing his two leading prosecutors to resign in protest. Still, the new DA insisted that the case was ongoing.

But then, he began returning much of the evidence. And now, in mid-June, Bragg has sent out this email boasting about how he was hard at work prosecuting Trump.  If I may borrow a term from Trump’s former Attorney General Bill Barr, this is complete bullshit.

D.A. Alvin Bragg Tells Judge He’s Ready to Move Ahead with Trump Org Case

D.A. Bragg urged a judge to proceed with a criminal fraud and tax evasion case against Donald Trump’s family real estate business and its long-serving bookkeeper. The filing comes in answer to a February motion by the Trump Organization and its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, to have felony charges against them dismissed.
