As everyone in the US heads towards the July 4th weekend some traders (and even investors) want to know when the market is closed or open. Especially, with the situation in Greece those who focus on short term movements likely will not be enjoying their barbeques as much. To confound the situation since July 4th falls out on a Saturday this year many markets in the USA are closed on Friday July 3rd. But what about July second? Does the stock market or bond market close early? What about other US markets and what about international markets? See more information below.
Here’s what closed at July 3rd (July 4th Independence Day Holiday):
- The Securities Industries and Financial Markets Associations has recommended that the bond markets close on Friday, July 3.
- Nasdaq and New York Stock Exchange trading will observe regular trading Thursday but will be closed Friday.
- Globex electronic trading, where oil and metals are traded, will observe normal hours on July 2, while the electronic trading platform will see an early 1 p.m. Eastern close Friday.
- European and Asian markets also will be open on Thursday and Friday so any developments with Greece will be felt most acutely there during the holiday.
- Chicago and New York Mercantile floor trading will be closed Friday and Chicago-traded commodities will see early closes, including in grains, Dow and Nasdaq futures and currency-related futures, starting at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday.
