The iPhone X officially launched a few days ago, and its release was getting a lot of attention over the last few days. The iPhone X is not the only thing that was released. The iOS 11.1 came out and became available for download. Everyone was looking forward to the release of this update mainly because it was supposed to address some issues found in the original iOS 11. One of the most disturbing issues was the battery life on older iPhone devices draining ridiculously fast after users upgraded to the iOS 11 from iOS 10.3.3. The iOS 11.1, truly delivered major enhancements to the system, but how about the iOS 11.1 battery life? Has Apple also addressed this problem with the new iOS release?

The iAppleBytes decided to test the iOS 11.1 battery life on devices that were running the newest iOS 11.1 upgrade, which, in this case, were the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 7. For test purposes, all the devices were charged up to 100% before they were put under the Geekbench battery test, running through battery-intensive operations. The point of the test was to see how long it took for each smartphone to run out of juice running the iOS 11.1, compared to the tests of when the iOS 11.0 was released.

The iPhone 5s ran out of battery in 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 10 seconds on iOS 11.1. The iPhone 6 gave up sometime later, with a time of 3 hours, 9 minutes, and 10 seconds, while the iPhone 6s died after 4 hours 43 minutes and 6 seconds. The most extended battery life, as expected, was the iPhone 7 that ran out of juice after 6 hours, 12 minutes, and 30 seconds.

The chart above, and which is also explained in the video below, shows the comparison of the four tested devices, showing how they had performed when they were running the previous version of the iOS 11 operating system. We can also see that the performance of the smartphones didn’t significantly change across all the devices with the release of iOS 11, whether they were public or pre-releases. However, we have noticed that there is a slight drop with iPhone 7. The last year’s model runs noticeably worse after the iOS 11.1 release.
