If you are one of the many iPhone X owners who enjoy the benefits that jailbreaking has to offer, then here is some great news for you: A South Korean hacker named Liang Chen of KeenLab has created and demoed a successful jailbreak of the iPhone X running on the iOS 11.1.1 firmware.

It usually takes several weeks, or even months, for a jailbreak to be released for a new device or updated firmware version. But Liang Chen managed to jailbreak the brand new iPhone X, running the brand new iOS 11.1.1 firmware. The iPhone X jailbreak was demonstrated at the POC2017 event in Seoul, South Korea.

You can watch the demonstration here, where you’ll see Liang Chen executing the jailbreak.

This news has definitely got the jailbreak community buzzing, knowing that at least one company has found the necessary exploits and escalation privileges required to produce a jailbreak for the iOS 11.1.1 firmware. Unfortunately KeenLab didn’t provide much information about the process, they simply demoed their jailbroken iPhone X.

Knowing that the iOS 11.1.1 firmware has these vulnerabilities means that Apple are probably already working on a fix which we’ll see in a firmware update very soon. So, if you want to jailbreak your iPhone X on iOS 11.1.1, then you should make sure you don’t update your firmware any time soon, as the next firmware update will more than likely fix the vulnerabilities in iOS 11.1.1 which allowed the jailbreak process to take place.

Where Can You Get The iPhone X Jailbreak?

The jailbreak hasn’t been released to the public yet, and there’s a good chance that this particular jailbreak may never be released. The company, KeenLab, who developed the jailbreak are a highly respected security company. But, knowing that it is possible has probably got a lot of enthusiasts working on their own jailbreak, so it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw a publicly available iPhone X Jailbreak popping up very soon.

Which iPhones & Firmware Versions Can Be Jailbroken Right Now?

With so many different devices and different firmware versions, it’s extremely rare to find a jailbreak be released which can work across all devices, and the latest firmware version.

The most recent jailbreak which is available for the public is for iOS 10.0 up to iOS 10.2. It works on all devices except the iPhone 7. If you have the iPhone 7 and you want to jailbreak it, you’re out of luck.

What Is Jailbreaking?

Jailbreaking your device allows you to install apps which aren’t signed by Apple; apps that aren’t available in the App Store. The type of apps you can download on a jailbroken device can offer much more functionality, and make better use of all of the features your iPhone X has to offer.

By jailbreaking your iPhone, you’re removing restrictions imposed on the device by the manufacturer or operator. For example, some operators don’t allow calls to be made through apps like WhatsApp or Viber if you’re using your 3G or 4G, they only allow them over WiFi. But, with a jailbroken device, you can bypass this restriction and make calls over 3G / 4G.

Jailbreaking Is Not As Popular As It Once Was

There was a time when millions of iOS users were jailbreaking their devices. The main reason for jailbreaking a device in the past has always been because it was required to jailbreak your device before you can unlock it.

Now that you can purchase your iPhone network-free (unlocked), and choose your own service provider, the need to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone is no longer a problem.

Another reason for the drop in popularity has been the great selection of apps available from the App Store. When jailbreaking first came around, the App Store didn’t exist in the same capacity it did today. With a jailbroken iPhone you could open up and install hundreds of apps on your device which were only available through the special app which is loaded onto your iPhone during the jailbreak procedure.
