Rumors about a smaller 4-inch iPhone 6C have refused to die down. Apple is widely expected to unveil its next-generation iPhone 6S and 6S Plus at a special event on September 9. And now well-known tipster Eval Blass has learned from his sources that Apple may also launch a third smartphone called iPhone 6C at the same event.

Some say the iPhone 6C would arrive in Q2, 2016

The iPhone 6C has been in the rumor mill for months. Reports suggest that Apple was initially considering to launch the device in late 2015. But the company pushed back its release to the second-quarter of 2016 in order to avoid cannibalization of the current iPhone 6 and 6 Plus that would get a price cut when the 6S and 6S Plus come out.

Supply chain leaks suggest that the iPhone 6S will have the same external design as the current flagship iPhone 6. The iPhone 6C is rumored to give buyers the same high-end experience and build quality as the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models. It is speculated that Apple may repackage the iPhone 6 components into a more colorful design and name it iPhone 6C. The Cupertino company took a similar approach in 2013 when it simply repackaged the iPhone 5 parts with a colorful plastic back, and introduced it as iPhone 5C.

How seriously should you take this iPhone 6C rumor?

Evan Blass has a very good track record of accurately revealing features and specs of numerous smartphones before they become official. But most analysts have rubbished the rumors of the iPhone 6C arriving this fall.

Separately, smartphone app marketing platform Fiksu found only two new iPhones in its data logs in July, reports MacRumors. It has raised doubts about rumors of the iPhone 6C arriving alongside the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Fiksu spotted two unknown iPhones in its logs: ‘iphone 8,1’ and ‘iphone 8,2’. These are likely the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. The current iPhone 6 is ‘iphone 7,1’ and the iPhone 6 Plus is ‘iphone 7,2.’ Though most of the hits came from the United States, Fiksu also reported hits from Brazil and Germany.
