Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), the world’s largest semiconductor maker is expected to release PC Haswell in June at Computex, Taiwan.
The next generation of Clovertrail is likely to hit the market in the fourth quarter of this year, says Sterne Agee analyst Vijay Rakesh. The investment research firm held several meetings with the chipmaker’s management to discuss the company’s various strategies.
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) said the PC market would continue to disappoint in near-term, but the sales may rise in the latter half of this year. The analyst believes that Intel would face multiple near-term challenges as the company continues to work on its L-T strategy to expand into uncharted territories.
Sterne Agee expects Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) to introduce Haswell at a competitive price. The 22nm Haswell chip runs on 10W power consumption and gives 2X graphics performance compared to 17W of Ivybridge and 22W of Sandybridge. Intel says it can drive 2x battery life compared to Ivybridge at 4-5 hours. Baytrail, which is the next generation of Clovertrail for Tablets, has more than 10 hours of battery life.
Another focus is its foundry business. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) said its agreement with Altera Corporation (NASDAQ:ALTR) is non-exclusive. So, that will not prevent the company from signing up other communication FPGA candidates. The other companies that have expressed interest in its foundry business are ZTE Corporation (SHE:000063), Juniper Networks, Inc. (NYSE:JNPR), Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) and Huawei Technology Co Ltd (SHE:002502) among others.
Sterne Agee said that the company is still searching for a new chief executive offer, as Paul Otellini is retiring in May. Rakesh said he thinks that the chipmaker has a strong work ethics, so the new CEO could be an internal hiring or someone who is already familiar with the company’s workings.
The investment research firm expects Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) to post $12.3 billion in the first quarter revenues with net income of $2.07 billion. Total sales for the full year are expected to come at $53.30 billion with net income of $9.67 billion.
