How To Mute Twitter Users

Updated on

On Monday, Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) introduced a brand new feature that enables users to mute tweets from annoying users on the micro-blogging site. If you find your friend or anyone else on Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) to be very annoying, then you’ll find this feature to be very useful.

Until now, if users find someone tweeting random nonsense or stuff that they don’t like, then they simply un-follow them. This means that they are no longer able to see those tweets on their timeline. But now, thanks to “mute,” you can temporarily stop seeing tweets from any user on your timeline. After some time, you can again un-mute that user. The mute option is slowly rolling out to all platforms. This option is already available on the web, but it will be soon available to Android and iOS apps. Here’s how it works.

How to mute a user on Twitter

Once this option is active for your account, you can mute anyone through two methods. You can click on the Settings gear from the user’s profile and then select “Mute.” You can also mute anyone directly from the Timeline itself by clicking on “More” and then on “Mute.”

The process is found to be similar even for those on Android and iOS platforms. But instead of clicking, you’ll need to press and hold on a tweet and then select the Mute option from there.

When you mute someone, the mute icon will be displayed next to the settings gear. The red icon means that the user is muted, and the grey means the user is not muted.

Of course muted users will never know that you have muted their tweets from your timeline. However, you’ll still be able to see notifications from them if they mention, favorite, or send a direct message. So go ahead and mute those annoying users right now.
