Twitter Inc Introduces Mute For Android, iPhone, Web

Updated on
Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) has rolled out a new mute feature for its Android and iPhone apps, as well as for Twitter on the web. This feature, as the name suggests, allows users to mute tweets from unwanted users on Twitter. Once you mute a user, their tweets and retweets won’t be displayed on your timeline, nor will you receive any push or SMS notifications from that user.

The muted Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) user will still be able to favorite, reply, and retweet your tweets. However, none of these actions will be displayed on your own timeline.

Mute gives you even more control over the content you see on Twitter by letting you remove a user’s content from key parts of your Twitter experience.

Muted users aren’t notified by any means that they’ve been silenced by you. You can of course, mute or unmute a user at any time.

How to Mute Twitter users

If you want to mute a Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) user from their profile page on Android, iOS, or Twitter.com’s web interface, visit their profile, tap on the gear icon and then choose “mute@username.” You can also do this directly from a tweet, by clicking on “More” and then on “Mute@username.”

According to Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR), this feature will be gradually rolled out out to all users within the “coming weeks.” So if you are tired of hearing from a certain Twitter user, then you should take advantage of this feature. Now it is no longer necessary to go through all the steps to manually “unfollow” a user; instead take a short cut and use the mute feature.

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) clients have long been able to mute individuals and topics, but this new feature means once you mute a user, he or she will stay muted across all  platforms.
