Updated on

While the 2015 International CES trade show doesn’t technically begin until tomorrow, you would be hard-pressed to be aware of this as companies from all over the world are unveiling new products and ideas today. Among them, is GoPro, which is launching and app that will bring GoPro-shot videos to millions with a simple click on a remote control.

For those that don’t own a GoPro camera but do own GoPro stock, 2014 was a banner year. Following an IPO which priced its stock at $28.65 millions of investors delighted in its nearing the $100 mark within months of going public. The stock is presently trading just shy of $66 but it was a wild ride not dissimilar to those made by its camera wearers on snowboards, mountain bikes and other conveyances.

GoPro just another channel among many

GoPro is no stranger to production nor channels for its users to show their videos. The company already has channels for Microsoft Xbox One and Xbox 360 video game consoles as well as on the in-flight entertainment offerings of Virgin America. The company has a strong channel presence on social media as well with channel offerings available on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vimeo, Pinterest, and GoPro.com/Channels.

“Entertainment is evolving rapidly into new formats and onto new platforms, and LG Smart TVs will provide a beautiful display for GoPro’s best original productions and user-generated content,” GoPro head of programming and distribution Adam Dornbusch said in a statement. “The GoPro Channel App will enable millions of LG smart TV owners to experience life’s most incredible moments as captured on our Hero cameras.”

Go Pro will utilize the webOS Smart TV technology available on 2015 and 2014 4K ULTRA HD, OLED and FULL HD TVs to provide viewers with over 400 hours of original programming.

LG and Playlists

“LG’s WebOS smart TVs make finding the content you want fast and simple so that consumers can spend more time enjoying, and less time searching for, the content they crave,” David VanderWaal, head of marketing for LG Electronics USA, said in a statement. “I can tell you that consumers are going to be blown away by the inspiring content available on the GoPro Channel app now available exclusively for LG Smart TVs — and experiencing it on our 4K OLED TVs is truly mind-blowing.”

While single video viewing is possible, its expected that most viewers will choose between over 20 playlists that include “genres” such as Top Picks, Wild Animals, Full Throttle, Short Films, Deep Sea and others.
