Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has plans to simplify all their chat programs including Google Talk, Hangout, Voice, Messenger, Chat for Drive, and Google Talk for G+ into one single service dubbed Babble.
Currently, all of Google’s chat programs and applications are not very interactive with each other. There are only two programs that function together well are G+ and Google Talk for Gmail.
Ideally, a cross platform program would help Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) compete with the bigwigs such at BlackBerry Messenger and iMessage.
Geek.com reports that Babble will allow users to share images via chat windows just as they would with G+ Messenger or to start a hangout session with anyone from their contacts list. Essentially, Babble is more about combining all the services into one program application to ensure users are able to access anything they want via one program.
Over the last few years, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has brought their chat services together through a chat platform dubbed XMPP and it has been quite a flexible option for Google throughout the years. In addition, their recent decision to open up XMPP requests that were not native just proves that the company is working their way to a more open platform.
At press time, there is no official word on when Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) will officially launch Babble to the public but there is a strong possibility that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) will introduce the unified program during Google IO event. This new service will be available through Android and Chrome OS.
With much of the focus on social media and marketing behind it, it is easy to see how Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has lost focus on their chat programs. Fortunately, the search engine giant sees that it’s important not to neglect their chat services as much of it tends to be an integral part of their social media platforms.
