In efforts to improve the Internet experience for all, nine large technology companies, including Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ), Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK), Mozilla, and Opera, have teamed up to launch a resource called Web Platform.  This new resource is actually a guide that offers the latest information on  web standards like HTML5, CSS3, animations, Canvas, SVG, video, and more. It’s a free resource that all web developers and bloggers should find useful.

Web Platform is a Wiki that allows the the site’s contributors to add more to their updates. Users can also get involved by chatting with other users on the forums or IRC chat rooms, in order to learn and exchange information.

The shared documents on the website are all licensed through creative commons. Although most of the content is provided from the aforementioned companies, users can offer their contributions, including code examples and tricks.

Adobe explained it best, “It is now up to the web community to help create and maintain the most comprehensive and authoritative reference for web technologies. So, go check it out and start contributing. Document the web!”

It’s great that these companies teamed up for such a wonderful project. With so much competition going on between many of these companies [namely Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)], it’s really nice to know that they’re actually teaming up together for a special project. WebPlatform.org has yet to launch their website.

This collaborative effort should be a success, especially since it’s got big names backed behind it. It’s really about time that this kind of website was built. There are many different resources out there for website builders, but it’s hard to sift through hundreds of resources, only to find that most are outdated. WebPlatform.org should change that, as long as the companies continue to add more resources and updates to the site.
