If you are in the market for a new smartphone, but have yet to decide between an iPhone 6 or Samsung Galaxy S6, this new report may influence your decision. According to a test conducted by Tom’s Guide, the iPhone 6 is slower than the Samsung Galaxy S6 when it comes to charging. Samsung’s phone manages to charge up to 27% within 15 minutes, but the iPhone 6 only charged 20% in the same time period.

Galaxy S6 trumps iPhone 6 in quick charge smartphones

After the 30-minute mark was reached, the Galaxy S6 managed to reach a 53% charge, whereas the iPhone 6 only managed to charge up to 36%. The former device took a total of 48 minutes to reach the 80% charge mark, but the latter took a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes to charge up to 80%. The Galaxy S6 finally reached 100% charge by 1 hour and 22 minutes, while the iPhone 6 took 2 hours and 35 minutes, roughly twice as long as the newest Galaxy smartphone.

How other smartphones compare

Tom’s Guide also tested out the battery charge abilities of other smartphones, including the Asus ZenFone 2 (which took 1 hour and 49 minutes to charge 100%), Moto Turbo (1 hour, 47 minutes), Google Nexus 6 (1 hour, 49 minutes), OnePlus 2 (2 hours, 10 minutes) and LG G4 (1 hour, 36 minutes). All the phones were checked at regular interval periods, and the final charge time was recorded. Although the final charge times may or may not affect a person’s decision on buying a phone, it is useful to know the charging times for a phone.

The Asus Zenfone 2 nearly beat the Samsung Galaxy S6 in terms of charging speeds. The Zenfone charged up to an impressive 17% during the first five minutes, but the Galaxy S6 quickly caught up with the Zenfone by the 30-minute mark when both devices reached up to a 53% charge. From there, the Samsung phone took the top spot with the fastest charging times.

Tom’s Guide reminds us that any phone capable of Quick Charge can get a full battery charge in about 2 hours.
