Samsung is expected to unveil its Galaxy S5 next month, but, as of now, only a few details are out on the ballyhooed device. However, a new Samsung phone has been leaked online with many believing it to be the Galaxy S5. According to popular benchmark app GFXBench, Samsung’s soon-to-be-launched device dubbed as SM-G900S would have 2K or 2560x1440p resolution.

This would be the highest resolution on any smartphone to date. At present, the maximum resolution in a smartphone is 1920x1080p.

Samsung to offer more density

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) Galaxy S5 is expected to sport a 5.2 inch display with a mean pixel density of 560 ppi, which would again be the highest in any smartphone. At present, the highest pixel density is offered by HTC One of 469ppi.

Chinese manufacturer, Vivo is slated to launch a smartphone with 2K resolution while the Galaxy S5 would be the second one in the segment. HTC is also expected to bring a 2k resolution technique in its smartphones in February next year.

Metallic body, or plastic, or both

Japanese Technology website EMSOne released a report stating that Samsung has put in an order for manufacturing 10-30 million metal unibody shells for the Galaxy S5 with three companies: Taiwan’s ODM Catcher Technology and Ju Teng, as well as China’s BYD. Recently, a metallic frame for Samsung’s device also surfaced online.

However, there are some reports suggesting that the Galaxy S5 would sport a plastic case while some reports go even beyond this saying the Galaxy S5 would “bring us the best of both worlds next year.”

Other expected specs of Galaxy S5

Regarding the operating system, Samsung would stick to Android, and the latest Galaxy S5 is expected to be powered by the latest version of Android, which is 4.4 Kit Kat. However, some expect that the Korean electronic major would launch one variant of Samsung Galaxy S5 on its OS Tizen.

Also, according to the benchmark test, Samsung’s device would be powered by a 2.46GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset, and would be equipped with an Adreno 330 graphics processor. There were rumors that Samsung would power its phone with a 64 bit processor, which fuels the speculation that the Korean company would launch two versions; one with the Snapdragon 800 processor and the other with a 64-bit chip.

The Samsung Galaxy S5’s camera is expected to sport 16 megapixels or 13 megapixels, according to various reports. However, competitors like Nokia and Sony have already launched smartphones with 41 megapixels and 20 megapixels. The camera of the upcoming device from Samsung could feature CMOS image sensor known as ISOCELL. It is also expected that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) will embed fingerprint sensors in its Galaxy S5. Another report suggests that the phone will have retinal scanning technology to unlock the phone.
