OnePlus already earned a lot of popularity with the sale of its OnePlus 3 and 3T last year. Since then, there have been several reports about a new phone in the works which may be called the OnePlus 5. Now Pete Lau, chief executive officer of the Chinese smartphone company, has hinted that something big is in works.
The OnePlus CEO posted a rather interesting picture on his official Weibo page. The post is about indulging in labor without rest to bring out a surprise. Android Headlines notes that the image basically shows off a few people working together to build a new smartphone.
Along with the image, the CEO included OnePlus’ “NeverSettle” hashtag. Though Lau did not provide any other information about the device, the image looks like the first official teaser for the OnePlus 5. The phone is expected to arrive next month because the OnePlus 3 landed in June 2016. The OnePlus 2 came out in July 2015, while the OnePlus 3T was released in November 2016.
It must be noted that the OnePlus 4 is also due, but since the number 4 is considered to be unlucky in China, there are good chances that the company will decide to skip that number and jump to the OnePlus 5.
Expected specs for the OnePlus 5
There has been no dearth of reports and rumors surrounding the OnePlus 5. Just a few days ago, we saw four camera shots which, according to rumors, were taken from the camera on the OnePlus 5.
According to True-tech, the first site to leak the photos online, “One factor that validates the fact that these images originate from a OnePlus 5 is the metadata or the EXIF info.”
The True-Tech team said they got the pictures from an anonymous leaker.
An alleged OnePlus 5 even surfaced nearly a week ago sporting a dual-camera setup on the rear. The dual-camera setup will put it in direct competition with the iPhone 7 Plus, Mi 6 etc. The leak also suggested that the OnePlus 5 will be made out of metal instead of glass and have a curved back. Given that the fingerprint scanner was not placed on the rear of the smartphone, it could be on the front, notes AndroidHeadlines.
OnePlus’s upcoming smartphone will reportedly be based on the OnePlus 3T (an upgrade to the OnePlus 3) and feature a 5.3-inch Quad HD display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 830 or 835 64-bit octa-core SoC processor, up to 128GB of storage, and 6GB or 8GB of RAM. The device is expected to come with Android Nougat pre-installed, and users will also get the company’s custom UI, OxygenOS. The phone will reportedly be powered by a 4,000mAh battery.
As of now, it is not known if the device will ship with a full-HD panel again or a QHD display, but reports suggest it will be a QHD AMOLED screen. The device seems to have gotten radio approval in China, so we may not have to wait much longer for the launch.
