Facebook Kills iPhone Battery Life; How To Fix It

Updated on

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is undoubtedly one of the most popular apps on the iPhone. But few iPhone users know that it kills their smartphone’s battery life. If you access Facebook app on your iPhone, you might have experienced low battery life. A former Apple Store Genius has found ways to stop Facebook from eating your smartphone’s battery life.

Why Facebook doesn’t care about your iPhone’s battery drain

According to OverThought.org, the social networking giant’s app runs multiple processes in the background. Last year, German app developer Sebastian Duvel claimed that the Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) app moves between active and inactive states all day, eating the battery life of your device. So, why is that happening?

Well, the Menlo Park-based company is planning to push into calling services on every device. It’s no secret that Mark Zuckerberg wants to make the company he founded the world’s largest communication platform. That’s why the company acquired WhatsApp for a whopping $19 billion, and recently added free WiFi calling to its Messenger app. Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s agenda is to become the first thing you use when you have to contact someone. To achieve that, the app has to constantly look for new communications. It wants to replace the telecom carriers’ network for texts and voice calls, but has to inform users instantly in order to achieve this.

So, the company runs its app in the background more than it should. People using Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) definitely get a better experience. But they never know that it is the social networking app that causes the battery life issues, so they simply blame the iPhone or the iOS. OverThought.org observed that Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t care if your iPhone battery is low. The only thing he cares about is replacing the carrier’s network for voice calls and texts. The battery drainage is just collateral damage.
