Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has launched a social plugin called Recommendations Bar. This social plugin helps people find articles based on what their friends like and share from their website.
This plugin opens a small pop-up box from the bottom of the screen while you’re reading an article, which contains articles that you might also like to read, plus it also displays how many people likes this article. Consider this a kind of related articles suggestion tool but its socialized and based on what your friends like and share.
Since its based on what your friends have liked and shared, there’s a high possibility that it may increase click through rates of the articles in the bar.
This pop-up box displays a like button, and features a small minimize button that minimizes it. Site visitors who feel this box is obstructive in the reading, can just minimize this box.
According to Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), in their early tests, sites that have implemented this Recommendations Bar plugin have seen 3 times the click through rate on stories, when compared to the older Recommendations Box plugin.
Like other social plugins, integrating this plugin is very easy. Just configure this plugin, copy the code and paste it on your site.
This new Recommendations Bar plugin is now available for integration. There’s also a Facebook for WordPress plugin, which also includes the same functionality, just in case you are more comfortable with the plugin, and don’t wish to manually configure it.
