Facebook Goes Down [Update: Back]

Update by Facebook 13:45 EDT: Increased errors/latency on all Platform surfaces

Traffic and error-rates are almost back to normal after a coordinated intervention by our engineering teams. We are now monitoring the situation and we have our best engineers determining the root-cause of this issue that affected much of our web fleet. We apologize for any inconvenience and we aim to ensure that this issue does not repeat.

Update 12:18 EDT: Facebook’s developer platform status page states:

Facebook is currently experiencing an issue that is affecting all API and web surfaces. Our engineers detected the issue quickly and are working to resolve it ASAP. We’ll update shortly.

Many users on Twitter are reporting that Facebook has gone down for them, on visiting the social media giant’s website, we saw this error:

“Sorry, something went wrong.

We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”

According to the status on downdetector, Facebook is having issues since 12:00 PM EDT. It’s not clear how widespread the outage is at this time.

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) suffered its longest and largest outage in years on June 19, 2014, disconnecting millions of users around the globe. Due to a technical problem, users were unable to access their accounts for about a half-hour.

Shares of Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), the world’s largest social network with 1.32 billion monthly active users, were trading down to $72.02 at the time of writing.
