DJI was supposed to hold a “See the Bigger Picture” event on July 18 to unveil the DJI Mavic 2. However, the Chinese company postponed the press event without specifying the future date. It looks like British store Argos didn’t get the notification of the cancellation of the event. Argos has mistakenly or accidentally leaked the DJI Mavic 2 catalog, revealing almost all its details.
Here’s what the catalog tells us about DJI Mavic 2
The catalog shows the upcoming drone in an ad listing its key features. It’s unclear how and why Argos ended up publishing the catalog even though the July 18 event was canceled. The catalog wasn’t a gimmick or fake. DJI told DroningOn that it was printed before the “See the Bigger Picture” event got postponed. The company said it had to delay the event to “ensure we can deliver high-quality, cutting-edge technology to our customers.”

As per the image, the drone is small, sleek, and foldable. The Argos catalog reveals that DJI Mavic 2 will launch in two different versions: the Zoom and the Pro. Both of them have a range of five miles and they can fly at up to 45mph. Both the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom versions have the same 31 minutes of battery life. They both will be capable of streaming live 1080p HD videos.
Both the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom come with 360-degree obstacle avoidance technology in the form of DJI’s proprietary Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS). They will also have the Active Track 2.0, which is an improved version of the company’s auto-tracking technology. The drones will have sensors on the front, back, bottom, and sides for “omnidirectional obstacle sensing.”
So, how do the two models differ? Well, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro gets a CMOS Hasselblad camera with a 1-inch sensor. It appears to lack the zoom lens. In contrast, the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom version offers a 2x optical zoom lens (24-48mm). The Argos catalog doesn’t reveal whether they will offer 4K video shooting and removable gimbal, both of which consumers would love to see in the new drone.
Earlier this month, folks at DroneDJ shared a real photo of the DJI Mavic 2, which suggested that the drone would retain the basic characteristics of the Mavic Pro. The picture showed two different camera/gimbal combinations. Its battery appears to be positioned at the top and towards the back. The image also indicated that it would have a removable gimbal similar to GoPro’s Karma drone. You should be able to swap out the sensor and gimbal.
Also, the propeller motors appear to be bigger than they are on the Mavic Pro. Since DJI had been promoting its event as “See the Bigger Picture,” the upcoming drones could feature a wide-angle lens to let users see more of the world in their shot. Currently, DJI offers wide-angle lens only on certain models in the Phantom series. And yes, the drone will have foldable legs.
It is unclear when DJI will release the new Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom models. We expect the new drones to arrive soon. Argos’ catalog doesn’t mention when they would go on sale. In terms of pricing, we expect the second-gen Mavic to cost about the same as the current Mavic Pro, which starts at $1,000. A significant price hike could sway the buyers away from new models to Mavic Air.
